Composition is one of my most personal passions.  At HUC-JIR, I studied composition with Cantor Gerald Cohen for three years, working to create original Jewish compositions that inspire the heart and express the soul.  I love to create melodies that combine folk and classical elements with traditional Jewish flavor.

I received the Kol Emet Commission Prize in Composition from Beth Emet the Free Synagogue, in Evanston, IL, in 2017, for my composition,  Hashkiveinu.

Three of my compositions are included below.  Hashkiveinu is from Shabbat liturgy, Prayer For Healing is from weekday liturgy, and We Cannot Go Back was written the day after attending the Jewish Rally for Abortion Justice in Washington DC, on May 17th,  2022.

All my original compositions are available for purchase, including sheet music and instrumental backing tracks.  Please contact me for more information.

Prayer For Healing, by Lindsay Kanter

Vocal & Guitar: Lindsay Kanter

Piano: Bob Remsteim

A Prayer For Healing is a yearning, pleading prayer that opens with a Niggun, a wordless melody.  It can also be used as an opening niggun, setting the tone for a contemplative healing service, while providing comfort and meaning to those needing strength.  Recorded live at its debut at the 2018 ACC Convention in Texas.
